My TW is 1350+ lbs. So no a 1/2 ton won't tow my trailer. I also load quite a bit in my trucks bed so I want a CC LB. There are no CC LB 1/2 tons. Thats why I own a 3/4 ton truck.
I also bought the 6.4 because in 2018 when I bought it the 5.7 2500 only had 2100 lbs of CCC and a 9000 lb GVWR. I knew I was getting a different trailer and was on the fence about staying with a 5er or going back to a TT. I didn't want to max out the 5.7's 2100 lb CCC with a 5er.
2nd, I've never stated anything about recouping costs from owning a diesel. In fact I've always been one to say that for many buying a diesel is no different that someone buying a truck with leather, nav, and a moon roof. No one hopes to recoup the costs of those options. They buy then because they want them.
And I never said I needed more power, I said I would 'LIKE' more power. Who wouldn't regardless of what they own. Just because I don't need it doesn't mean I wouldn't like it.
My old 2012 Crew Cab F150HD Ecoboost had a payload of over 2,400 lbs and it was rated to tow over 11k so yeah there is a half ton that can tow your trailer.
You actually said you don't need 400hp earlier in the thread even though your 6.4L makes 410. However, my initial comment was toward those who have stated that they don't need more power as a reason not to buy a diesel yet turn around and get all gitty about an gas engine with more power. I just found it a little ironic is all. If this isn't you then my post was not about you.
