I think the type of hitch you have does not matter in a heavy out of control sway, it's mostly driver error. When something happens with a trailer like heavy sway the first thing that comes to you is hit the brakes, worst thing you could do.
If you tow a trailer you should be aware of this, I almost lost my trailer when I had one, on the garden state pkwy. A bus was next to my trailer and decided to switch two lanes over suddenly, that action sucked my trailer so hard to the left that I started to lose it over sway, but quick thinking I did not hit the brakes but accelerated and hit the trailer brakes, after swaying over three lanes and what seemed an eternity I got the trailer back under control.
I am sure if I would have panicked and slammed on the brakes over I would have gone.
