I like many have pulled trailers all my life, usually larger g/n stock or horse trailers and also now 5vers. If you ever get yourself in a bind and the trailer is swaying the worst thing you could do is slam on your brakes, just grab the controller and lock up the trailer brakes, I call it (jerking you straight) kinda like throwing out an anchor, it will straighten you right out and get you out of a bind, also applies if your trailer is sliding sideways on a slick road, again it will straighten you right out.
Many times over the years on slick roads, or when someone pulls out in front of me I have reached down and manually grabbed the controller to help control the load. I use to own a trailer business and always schooled folks that were not familiar with towing to use this practice when you get into a bind, get a good feel where the controller is located kinda like when you reach for your radio control, you always know right where that is, do the same with the brake controller and always make sure your brakes are working correctly for sure..oh also applies to bumper pull trailers...
That is very good advice. In the old days, before factory installed brake controlers, you would be surprised where some folks would install the controlers. I like to install them where I can reach them with my right hand while resting my right arm on my right leg.
