I can understand how you might not understand, but the reality is the problems with width are usually at ground level or just above that. The camper width or mirrors don’t factor in. Besides, mirrors will fold in on most trucks.
Any way, I’ve driven roads that have just enough width for a SRW to get between large rocks and the DRW would be too wide. I’ve also driven paved roads that the right tire would be off the road unless I went into the oncoming lane. There are many barely paved roads that are just wide enough for a car/srw even if you don’t drive them. The right edge of the lane is also the first part to fall off on these barely paved roads such as exist in the more remote areas of the St Helens area, for example.
That being said, I like my DRW for the TC, but SRWs are ok, too.
