Sorry, this post is partially my fault. But it's good to see that so many are having good experiences with their diesels. This message from IdaD is exactly what would happen to me (Davis luck lives). Almost everyone so far has had to have warranty work done on something emissions related. If you are halfway across the country and something breaks under warranty, you get to experience an IdaD fiasco. And if it only happens to every one in ten trucks, it'll be mine. Guaranteed.
Still no diesel envy, though.
You are purpoely neglecting one major thing from his post though. His issue is not a diesel or emission specific issue, but rather from a bearing which all engines have even your Ecoboost. That is like trying to blame the Ecoboost misfire due to intercooler moisture or timing chain grenadine the engine as a reason not to buy any gas engine even though diesels also have intercoolers and some have timing chains.
Also, the very fact that you would even post here kind of proves the diesel "sour grapes". Most people that don't care about something wouldn't even take the time to respond.
The emissions on the DEF equipped diesels are much improved but they're still not as reliable as a gas powered truck.
I don't think that's accurate. Hang around a dealerships waiting room while your getting some service done and you'll hear plenty of people getting the bad news about their "normal" gas engines and the various sensors and other emissions stuff. Cost of repairs always seem to run into the thousands.
Gas engines have a myriad of sensors and sophisticated parts that fail just as often. The posts here in this thread from modern diesel owners shows they aren't anymore prone to failures than anything else.
Anyone who thinks a repair on something as complicated as a EcoBoost or similar is going to be appreciable cheaper than a Modern diesel just hasn't been around enough to know.
