Gas or diesel, there all man made and will have problems. To me even the new gas engines are complicated compare the eco boost to the old 300 inline six. I just bought a 2001 with a standard transmission because I have an irrational fear of automatics and I am too cheap to buy a new diesel. The only time I have been stranded was with a gas motor and the repairs were quite expensive. I say let the engineers do there thing, bring on the power, fuel economy and clean emissions! Everything on cars and trucks is complicated these days, might as well have the power of a diesel if you are going to tow big.
