Sorry, this post is partially my fault. But it's good to see that so many are having good experiences with their diesels. This message from IdaD is exactly what would happen to me (Davis luck lives). Almost everyone so far has had to have warranty work done on something emissions related. If you are halfway across the country and something breaks under warranty, you get to experience an IdaD fiasco. And if it only happens to every one in ten trucks, it'll be mine. Guaranteed.
Still no diesel envy, though.
You are purpoely neglecting one major thing from his post though. His issue is not a diesel or emission specific issue, but rather from a bearing which all engines have even your Ecoboost. That is like trying to blame the Ecoboost misfire due to intercooler moisture or timing chain grenadine the engine as a reason not to buy any gas engine even though diesels also have intercoolers and some have timing chains.
Also, the very fact that you would even post here kind of proves the diesel "sour grapes". Most people that don't care about something wouldn't even take the time to respond.
He also skipped over the part where I said I loved the truck, expect to keep many years and plan to ultimately replace it with another diesel truck. I get that he's going to focus on the negative, but I've had some negative experiences with gas powered vehicles too.
Fact is you just can't replicate the diesel experience with any current gas motor. Overall the ownership cost difference is negligible, so to me it just makes sense to go for the higher performance.
Edit - I do agree with Fish that diesel emission systems are less reliable than gas emission systems at this point. I'd delete mine if I didn't live in an emission testing area.
