2014 Ram 3.0 Econodiesel used commercially to transport Airstreams, TTs, & boats. Mostly Ohio & Indiana to west coast & back ie over the moutains. 70 percent of mileage is towing something usually in the 4 to 7K range. Half a dozen transports in 8 & 9k range which is a load for any 1/2 ton chassis & requires proper set up. Non towing miles are often transporting Harleys motorcycles snowmobiles in bed. IE it’s worked hard but not generally over worked. Basic tune at 33k which turns off EGR.
Non maintenance diesel related repairs;
Still had emmissions problems prior to 80k covered under warranty.
Inexpensive Lift pump 200k ish
260k converter plugged. Cleaned out factory exhaust pipeing the old fashion way. Then needed $50 tune update.
341k had oil leak at turbo flange. 349k & 351k radiator & water pump. The water pump was an expensive part with more labor than most due to motor layout / design. Put new overflow tank plus misc odd part at that time. That bill was about $1500.
371,500 she pushed out a head gasket. I chose to replace the motor with a new one. New factory motor comes complete fuel pump, injectors, turbo and 24 month unlimited mile warranty good at Ram dealers across the country. I got the motor on discount $5500. Basic R&R useing book hours & non coastal shop rates $1,500.
Truck now has 398k with unmolested 8 speed transmission. FYI I didn’t buy this truck to transport but fell into it since I live close to the Airstream plant. Airstreams are all only bumper pulls & more aero so truck works well for this nitch. Also truck helps greatly with your single biggest expense.. fuel.
