Sorry, had to step in here. I did have a modern diesel, the first of the smogged diesels. A 6.0 PowerStroke. And it did have problems. I don't need to see your data. Your data sounds good.
Your presentation could use a little polish, though. You have a unique position to view this subject. The previous point that diesels need to be worked and gas can handle the stop & go and long idle times, seems to come into play here as well. I used my diesel about 95% for daily driving. Which may have contributed to some of it's problems. It does seem that there are more engine related TSBs for diesels, though. You would be in a position to see that. What do you think?
The 6.0L is not a modern diesel. A modern diesel is a common rail with EGR, DPF, and a DEF just like you said you were scared of in the last thread when you said how unreliable these modern diesels were. The 6.0L that you had was the start of the first years of diesel emissions requirements and were some of the ones that had many issues up until the 2010+ diesel which are way more reliable.
As far as TSB's go, that is not always a way to tell because it may only effect some engines not all. For instance, the misfire issue on the early 3.5L Ecoboost did not effect all engines and it certainly did not effect mine yet there was a TSB for it. Same goes for the timing chain or oil consumption TSB's for the Ecoboost. The only thing that most TSBs state is that there have been multiple recording of the same issue and it may or may not be in issue in every one.
However, this thread is about what issues current 2010+ diesel owners are having and if these issues are inline with reliability statements non 2010+ diesel owners are claiming they have. So if you have a 2010+ modern diesel then please feel free to respond with the issues you had.
