Shiner,
Don't forget the following emissions related issues that come to mind:
GM's DEF Contaminations Errors that they got a waiver from the EPA to disable this function until they got the problem sorted out. CEL's for emissions related issues with the LP5's still appear to be an issue.
Ford's EGT sensors that would fail and put you on the side of the road, DEF heating element failures are showing up and EGR cooler leaks on the 6.4 trucks causing engine failure.
Ram's Eco Diesel sales was put on hold for almost 1 year due to the emission scandal (call it what your want) and non DEF trucks requiring cleaning the EGR valve, EGR cooler and turbo (optional) as a maintenance item every 65k miles that's not a cheap exercise. DEF equipped trucks with CEL's for emissions related issues.
Most of these issues were part of the learning curve and have gotten better, but happened during your allotted time span your asking about. Having said that emissions deletes are still active in the diesel community by people who perceive the emissions is a problem, is going to reduce the lifespan of the engine or who simply had emissions related problems and got fed up and took matters in their own hands.
