The ED wouldn’t take the abuse of the 6.7/6 but it’s not in an HD platform either. I bought if before knowing I was going to be transporting TT and generally wouldnt pick it for that business but sort of fell into it and it works well for the nitch of primarily Airstreams as they are all aerodynamic (relative) bumper pulls & no larger than about 8,500. The bread & butter is 6k to 6,500 pounds which is comfortable & efficient for the motor trans & 1/2 ton platform.
Working commercially you can’t afford down time and an over the road warranty becomes more valuable to you. The new factory motor came with everything including new fuel pump injectors turbo and especially valuable to me 24 month unlimited mileage warranty that any Ram dealer where ever I’m at could honor. Down time was minimal. I called ahead and ordered the motor on Friday morning dropped the truck off Sunday evening & picked it up Tuesday at 5 pm.
Motor was only $5,500 (whole sale-ish) book hours non coastal rates $1500 labor to R&R. No bottom end heads yada yada to worry about. Never said motor is all that & a bag of chips all things to all people etc but it’s worked well for my needs. Single biggest expense in towing TTs .. fuel. At 65 mph averages 15.0 with a double axle AS 14.0 with a box TT 14.2 if it has aero nose. Maybe with a Cummins I’d get a million miles but most don’t. Many camper owners don’t need a million mile motor or 900 TQ. Power/cooling is a notable compromise though. With 6,500 pounds 55 mph is all I go climbing a typical 5 or 6 percent grade. Suits me ok I’m still passing semi. But I fully understand many “need” to climb at 70 in the hammer lane & tow 80 on the flats. If that is you this is not your truck. Best
