It's still the person's mistake... they have the option of proof reading it, as you do.
Most folks don't have trouble with a simple error, such as you pointed out (we're/were). We can read through it without a hiccup or headache.
Add a run on sentence with improper grammar and piss poor spelling and no punctuation and mindless dribble and... and the worst part is it defeats the authors efforts. Many folks won't get past the pain of reading it to retrieve the story.
