I've got roughly the same truck as ib516, a Ram 6.4L Hemi, though with the 3.73 rear end. For the weight I tow (about 7500lbs), I've been perfectly happy with it. I live in Rapid City, SD and most of our trips are up into the Black Hills. Not the Rockies, but not the flat lands, either. I average 8.5-9mpg on trips into the Hills. This weekend I got 10.3 on a trip out to Badlands KOA, which was just rolling hills, no elevation changes.
If I were towing heavier, or at higher elevations, I'd have gone with the diesel. But for what I do, the gasser works pretty well.
