I've got roughly the same truck as ib516, a Ram 6.4L Hemi, though with the 3.73 rear end. For the weight I tow (about 7500lbs), I've been perfectly happy with it. I live in Rapid City, SD and most of our trips are up into the Black Hills. Not the Rockies, but not the flat lands, either. I average 8.5-9mpg on trips into the Hills. This weekend I got 10.3 on a trip out to Badlands KOA, which was just rolling hills, no elevation changes.
If I were towing heavier, or at higher elevations, I'd have gone with the diesel. But for what I do, the gasser works pretty well.
After readings months and months worth of posts here, it is obvious that the 6.4L Ram tows "heavy" better than the 6.2L competition, and gets 1 or 2 more MPG while doing so.
Frankly, the MPG reported by everyone is almost unbelievable when considering the load, but with so many reports there has to be something to it.
This is an interesting phenomenon, my question is why? Makes you think it was deigned strictly for work somehow.
