One instance where the 3.73's are better (aside from potentially better mileage) is maintaining 60-65MPH highway speed. The 3.73's will be able to use 2nd gear (yes, it's noisy) but will be right at peak power, 385HP, ~5400RPM.
With 4.30's, it can only downshift to 3rd and 300HP until your speed sags back to about 55MPH where it can then downshift to 2nd and tap into the full 385HP.
I have found that when towing 9000lbs, the steepest hills on main highways around here require more than 300HP but less than 385, so I can always maintain speed. Another gear between 3rd and 2nd would be nice; it jumps from 260HP to 385HP in one step.
The low 1st gear launches well, even with 3.73's but 4.30's would do it better.
If you tow heavier or in the mountains or on steeper grades, the 4.30's are the way to go but don't disregard 3.73's.
