I'd recommend if it's available to you, to rent rather than buy anything (new or used) to give yourself and your spouse an opportunity to see if Rving is for you and worth the investment in dollars and time you're going to have to make to take the plunge.
My wife and I rented a class C and spent a long weekend in Lake George to get a taste of RVing. The first question she asked after we got home was "when is the next trip?"
After that we began our search being very realistic about what we could afford, our needs versus our wants with respect to size and accommodations, storage during the off seasons, what I could tow with my current TV, etc. Once you get a basic understanding of these issues then you can start shopping on-line to determine what fits in your price range, visit local dealers or go to a nearby RV show.
Enjoy the hunt :).
