Don't be in a rush to buy.Go to RV shows,go to dealers, ask friends with trailers what they like/dislike.See as many trailers as you can. Then decide on what you like/need.
Research your tow vehicle's payload and towing restrictions. An earlier post stated the Traverse's payload was 1700lbs. So add up the weights of your family, pets, and all the stuff you will be carrying in the Traverse.Subtract from 1700lbs. What's left is your maximum hitch weight.
Don't use the dry hitch weight weight in brochures.Once you add propane tanks,a battery and load up the trailer , the hitch weight will be higher.
Don't rely on the RV dealer to figure out your weights. They will tell you anything for a sale.Do the numbers yourself.
Rent a trailer to see if you like camping in a trailer. (you will ! )
We just went through the process. Took about 2 years. Started off thinking our F-150 could tow an 8000lb 28 ft trailer. Ended up with a 23 foot TT with a GVWR of 6200lbs. We are very happy. Don't get caught up in the salesmen's hype !
