Just as in Home Construction, RV regs for legitimate manufacturers require an escape from the sleeping area/compartment of your Truck Camper. Your immediate window beside your sleeping area should have a handle and or device to open quickly and escape. Or simply have something you can throw through the window (can of Green Beans) then kick out the rest of the glass, lay a blanket (from bed) over the broken edges (should be tempered glass) to drop down and out of the sleeping area. Often over head hatches can be used for escape. This is all something your dealer should have reviewed with you at point of purchase. All this will take less time to run to the back door and open and leave. But like at home, you should practice or work it through your mind, before an emergency happens.
Also, I would not want a handle sticking out, with the frequent Stealth Camping I do. If you don't stealth camp it certainly is a plus, especially with balance getting in an out.
