This is the kinda **** that wakes me up at night

A couple of night ago, something flashed through my head (scary place to be sometimes). How easy it would be to get trapped in the TC. Our Northstar, and probably many other brands, has the hand rail thingy that folds across the door when traveling. If someone just wanted to mess with us, all they would have to do is fold it in while we are asleep thereby preventing the door from opening. Not that I am paranoid, maybe it is more my mischievous side coming out. Granted, not a big deal to pop the escape hatch and come down the ladder.

That's it. Sometimes I just come here for therapy.

Thanks!
  • Had it done to myself on bus conversion once.
The locks are just internal latches that hold the handle. You can leave it locked with door open and than just slam the door.
Ops, slammed the door inside, while it could be unlatched only from the outside.
Windows on the conversion are over 6' above the ground, but I took my time to get down.
  • Never thought of this either or tried to see if I could push it open. But I think that I have noticed that the bar just doesn't quite drop down in place when it up against the door on our 015 Lance, thought that this maybe a design flaw but could be purposely made so it won't drop down & latch in the closed position (against the door).
But in a panic situation such as a fire I don't think it would take much to break the cheesy plastic hinge though.
  • I wouldn't loose any sleep over it. In many years of reading these forums I've never heard of this happening...campers messing with other campers? If you just can't get it out of your mind install a different assist handle thats stationary. I do however like the style you have and on a truck camper they work well. I'd rather worry about the fly rods and keeping the beer cold....happy camping!
  • I've never tested our rail, but I would hope that the pressure from the door opening would snap it open.
