Back in the 70's when I was involved with the big 3 in the Detroit area the transport companies, be it rail or truck loaded right at most auto plants. That property might have been owned by one of the big 3 but was leased to the transport company. As soon as the vehicle entered the transport area the cars were considered sold units as the transport company was now responsible for any loss or damage.
