My son uses one when he's boondocking, and the noise was pretty loud. So he built a plywood enclosure that's easy to set up and tear down. To that, he added a muffler and intake that brings in fresh air and muffles the exhaust. On the top, he put vent slots so the heat doesn't build up. When he's set up, it is actually quieter than my Honda 3000i. His solution was MUCH less expensive than buying a Honda or Yamaha.
