To give some perspective I hit the scales before the trip I'm currently on, my trailer has a 3,500lb weight rating (3050 dry). We were at max weight on the trailer (3 week trip, empty fresh water tank). With two teens and a 10 year old in the back, wife and I up front, 10 gallons of emergency gas, spare 20lb gas cylinder, 18lb bag of charcoal, kids bike, and a few 12 packs of pop in the bed we were at rear axle rating. With 4 bikes on a front hitch we were near max front axle rating. My truck is a stripped crew cab full bed with a 9,100lb tow rating but we hit max axle and frame rating with a small 3,500lb trailer, which goes to show how little tow rating means when you're talking about a family and travel trailer.
