My wife wanted a luxury car... then she learned just how finnicky they can be when something eventually goes wrong and how big the repair bills can rack-up when those vehicles are out of warranty. Other bit is the service costs as well if you don't work on vehicles yourself. However, these issues are more prevalent with the European lux cars versus the Asian and American lux cars.
Just to make sure you are fully aware of what you may be purchasing, head down to your choice lux-dealer (especially if it's European). Instead of going to the sales floor, head on over to the service department. Pretend you already own said brand of vehicle and you were curious what the service costs are. I personally found that salesmen of these higher end brands either really hate telling how much something costs (and how often), or they'll just flat out say something along the lines "If you have to ask, you can't afford it". So I'm forever turned-off from European lux-line dealers. I even had an uncle that worked at Freightliner so I had access to really cheap Mercedes vehicles. I then learned how much it would cost to maintain and service... However, I'm more than happy to look at a Lexus/Infinity/Cadillac etc...
