It might be for a while but that won't last. Sooner or later they will get caught up and "rediscover" that having vehicles on the lot for those impulse buyers is also quite profitable.
Even if there is some sort of back door agreement between manufacturers, it's a tenuous cease-fire at best. Someone WILL blink. They will decide they can get a leg up on the competition by having vehicles on the lot for people to buy TODAY, and then it will be back to business as usual.
