Not at all, I've got one of the older time based units and it works no problem at all.

Only problem will be the time it comes on 1 second AFTER the wreck. Enertia / proportional brake controllers, come on as soon as you hit the brakes, and as hard as you hit the brakes.Timed. They come on, Well.... later. Will it ever be too late? Only time will tell.

The g force based ones are only like 130 bucks for a nice one anyways. I believe the inertia ones will stop better than the timer ones. Sooner or later a few feet of stopping distance will be the difference between sitting in the truck with a racing heart saying "that was close" vs standing on the side of the road exchanging insurance info and waiting for the tow truck.I will say this however, the ones that are integrated into the new trucks are leaps and bounds better than the tekonsha prodigy I used before I got my new truck.

The timed ones should be taken off the market. There's just no place for them when proportional braking is readily available.

I like my time controlled unit. It is just as smooth as any unit on the market today. I just use the hand controller. I also don't need power windows either. Before long people are going to be hiring people to drive them on their vacations because they are going to want to just sit back and ride and not have to turn the turn signal on to make a turn. We are getting lazy people.

OP...a good discussion and glad helped you make up your mind and enjoy the ride

The 'effect' of ABS initiation will not have as much braking as the exact same
vehicle/conditions/etc that does not initiate ABS...but that is yet again too
technical for this forum...
