- mpierceExplorerIf you have older tow vehicle, the MaxBrake is the best on the market. It tees into the brake system, and senses the pressure. It is VERY good. Feels like factory between the trailer and the TV. LOVE mine. Hope the integrated one on my ordered 2013 Ram 3500 is near as good!
I have had several inertia based ones, and thought they were good. When I went to a bigger trailer, I tried the MaxBrake, and should have bought it YEARS ago! Love it.
I believe timed ones should be taken off the market. You have emergency stop, and you need to wait for the trailer to brake? Not me.
You have a long, slow brake situation, and you want the trailer brake to keep getting more and more? Not me. - notevenExplorer IIIHas anyone changed from a timed controller to non-OEM inertia style and if yes what differences were found?

I will say this however, the ones that are integrated into the new trucks are leaps and bounds better than the tekonsha prodigy I used before I got my new truck.
Yes, I agree the Ford controller in my F250 is much smoother than the prodigy I had in my Titan. - ScottGNomadThe timed ones should be taken off the market. There's just no place for them when proportional braking is readily available.
- TacoExplorerThe g force based ones are only like 130 bucks for a nice one anyways. I believe the inertia ones will stop better than the timer ones. Sooner or later a few feet of stopping distance will be the difference between sitting in the truck with a racing heart saying "that was close" vs standing on the side of the road exchanging insurance info and waiting for the tow truck.

Enertia / proportional brake controllers, come on as soon as you hit the brakes, and as hard as you hit the brakes.
Timed. They come on, Well.... later. Will it ever be too late? Only time will tell. - FishermanExplorerNot at all, I've got one of the older time based units and it works no problem at all.

Our TV has a Reese sumthin sumthin timed brake controller, for use on up to 4 axle trailers.
Are we destined to crash and burn due to not having the other style?
Maybe :h
