Tips on buying a newTT

Seen some of the posts from before and found them very helpful.
Hoping to get some suggestions for our new venture.
Have a 2015 suburban max trailer package, and GVWR of 7500.
For our needs, looks like salem cruise lite 261BH would be ideal TT. Dry wt including the hitch is about 4800lbs.
Wife and 2 kids (8 & 5).
Do plan to go on long 2-3 wk road trip this coming summer.
May have couple of friends joining (most likely).
Any thoughts if I should go for lighter weight TT, or would we be ok with the one mentioned above??
Appreciate the suggestions.

  • Thx APT. when u say "Receiver is another at 1000 pounds", are you referring to tongue wt?
Tongue wt on this particular TT is about 500 lbs.
  • Appreciate the concern Dick B. We have rented class C before and had great time. Positive about pursuing the trailer, do plan to make few closely wknd trips during the year as well.
  • Payload is one limitation. Verify your Tire and Loading sticker on driver's door for as equipped payload.

Receiver is another at 1000 pounds when using weight distribution. If you find a trailer than keeps you inside both of those, performance should not be a problem.

Get a WDH with integrated sway control (Equal-i-zer 4-pt, Reese Strait Line, Blueox Swaypro). Get some wider side mirrors, extensions or replacement OEM style.

Thx fla-gypsy. GVWR of the trailer is about 7800 lbs. Payload on the Burb is about 1750 lbs.
Plan to go to rv parks with hook ups.

Based on that you should be OK as long as you don't pack to much in the Burb and eat up all of your payload with people.

  • Some more information would be helpful. The payload capacity of the Burb from the door pillar sticker and the GVWR of the trailer? Plus what type of camping you plan to do? (primitive, RV resort, State park, NFS etc.)
  • Have you owned an RV previously? If not, are you sure you want to buy one? What about renting a couple of times for a weekend to be sure you can deal with the lifestyle. Go to your room doesn't mean much on an RV!
