Yup the old ST vs LT vs P debate. Kind of like talking to the dog.
You can go with what the people who design these thing for a living say or you can use you own self appointed expertise.
What ever make you sleep best.
I watched the video that an earlier post linked to. The guy had 30 years in the tire business. He stated that cost for similar quality tire is pretty close regardless of category (P or ST or LT). So he doesn't appear to have a horse in this race.
ST tires are designed and built for trailers. They dissipate heat better due to composition of rubber and tread design. They are stronger in sidewall due to composition of rubber and size of components within tire wall. In the sample he showed, the ST tire was rated for at least 25% more strength than the LT even though they were both the same size.
LT tires will take driving conditions into consideration (off-road, highway, rain, snow, etc). LT tires will take ride comfort into consideration (at least to some degree). ST tires do not have to be concerned with this stuff. The only concern is performing on the trailer. No drive issues or steering issues like the LT.
I find it interesting that those who are proponents of ST tires do not endorse putting them on the TV but proponents of LT tires do endorse putting them on the trailer.
ST tires are clearly designed and built for a specific purpose. I don't see a good reason to use a tire that is designed and built for a whole other purpose.
