Tire pressure sensor unit

We have had 2 flat tires over the past 12 months dedpite checking pressure & inspecting tires regularly. We are looking for advice on installing & using some type of tire monitoring (sensor) on our 27' camp trailer.
  • I bought the HD4 TPMS from Hawkshead because they have a patented "T-valve" so you can use regular sensors instead of having to use the flow-through type. The dash unit looks the same as a few others out there and who knows, maybe they're all made in the same plant.. T-valves and tpms.ca

Available in the US from: TVforMyRV.com This source has the better price for the HD4 package.
The T-valve is a new product and I had to buy them from the Canadian distributor separately.

A TPMS is highly recommended. There are a number of reasons why RV tires fail and this blog has some excellent info. from a tire expert and it's good to know what you can do to minimize the chance of failures. http://www.rvtiresafety.com/search/label/Failure
  • we have Doan system used it on alaska trip and yellowstone their people were awesome when we had a moniter fail they overnighted us a new one in Homer Ak (it did take a couple of days)
  • This TST is the system I got last year before a 1,500 mile trip, it saved me from a seriously over-pressure/over-heated tires (the difference being between leaving in low 40's temps and ending-up driving in 90+ degrees on black asphalt interstate). And I've had slow leaks before getting the system...it would have alerted me before damaging a tire sidewall. Seriously worth it IMO!
If you go with these sensors (I'd recommend against their "flow-thru sensors), you'll need metal or high-pressure reinforced brass valve stems.

Tire traker system here, but I don't think it really matters all that much what brand as any of them will be better than none. Its nice to know immediately of a problem such as low pressure or overheating.

I'd have to agree. I've had TPMS (tire pressure monitoring systems) on more than one tow vehicle, and, I purchased one to install on my TT. Ten years and three trailers without a flat tire, but, I've had numerous false alarms. I quit using the TT monitors.

  • I have used Pressure Pro for around 10 years. Biggest advantage is ability to check pressures on all 14 tires in seconds every time I get in the cab.
