Certain brands of some things seem to attract a fanactical following that really makes no sense.
Maxxis ST tires are one of those things.
I won't bother with the perceived quality or lack of quality of Maxxis. Those that believe will always believe. Those that don't never will.
But there is one aspect of owning Maxxis ST tires that is irrefutable, even the proponents will admit it when backed into a corner.
Their availability is terrible.
Post after post on here with a common theme. Someone had to order their Maxxis tires and WAIT for them to come in.
This is bigger problem than it seems on the surface. Any tire, no matter how good it is, can suffer from a road hazard and need replacing. Many times on dual axle TTs, the other tire on the same side will need replacing as well.
If this happens while you are on the road (likely) vs at home. (unlikely) You will likely not be able to secure a replacement. You may end up stuck somewhere while the tire(s) are ordered. Or you may just have to settle for what ever ST tire happens to be in stock.
This is the big advantage of 16" LT tires. Tons of choices and great availability. This is due to the huge truck market that they are commonly used for.
