Tire suggestion/reccomend

I've always used Michlin LTX and had good luck with them, now I just found a seperated rear, in my drive as I was hooking up my flatbed to get some welding done tomorrow, needless to say it's not going anywhere. To boot we just got back from the North rim and Escaslante so I count myself lucky we made it home without a mishap or worse.

Tires, what do you guys reccomend, any sales going on now? I'm open to suggestions. I have a 2500HD DM GMC and carry a load of about #3500, plus I tow a cargo trailer 8x5. Not a good time $$$ wise but ya got do what ya gotta do.... HELP

This truck isn't going anywhere tii this problem is fixed and I'm really hesitent to drive to the tire shop, guess what I'll be doing soon.
  • I am a little confused about your current tires , perhaps a misprint .
You say your tires are 265/70/16 , according to michelin that is a P rated tire . A 265/75/16 would be an LT tire . You also mention going back to 245's to get the load rating you need . The LT 265/75/16 has a higher load rating than LT245/75/16 .

Michelin's have always been excellent tires but recently more and more reports of tread separation an weather cracking have been surfacing . Perhaps they have changed compounds .
  • It looks like I'll have to go back to 245's to get a load capacity I need. I never noticed the low capacity of the LTX I've been using(2 sets) might be the reason my tire is coming apart. Might look at Toyo M55's.
  • Good luck finding a tire deal this time of year, maybe in the fall. Americas Tire and Les Schawb do pretty good job and good coverage as well. But for my use had to go to 19.5's...love them already have past the milage I maybe would have got on OEM size tire ans still have 65% left heading to 150K miles plus.

I am glad you noticed the bad tire...I do wish folks would look at their rigs daily and each time they fuel up.

I forgot where I saw it but there was another thread asking the same thing, same truck even.

I think it might have been in the tow vehicle section. I think it had "2500HD tires" in the thread title.
Went and looked but there all pulling trailers not carrying a camper, big difference I belive

  • I like my tires but I am too close to their load limit for comfort (per the cat scale). I already had one blow out that took out a side of my bed and the air bag lines. That is why I am going to 19.5s, safety margin. You rims are too narrow for the tires I run

what is your current tire size and rim width?
Stock wheels I belive 6.5 Current tires are 265X70X16
  • Reading Buzzcut's signature, I see we both use the same tire. I've had no complaints with mine. I bought them because of mileage claims I saw on here. I don't think I'll get the 50,000 miles I read about but strong tire and no failures.
