Tires again

My tires are the originals. They were made in 2010. We have the trailer in heated storage for 5 months during the winter. I keep being told they are in excellent shape, no cracks or wear. Others tell me they look brand new on the tread and sidewalls. So do you blindly replace them after 6 years? Our tires are Good Year Marathons. We pretty much stay inside the state, no long trips. Those of you that have had blowouts, was there any cracking or warning signs before that? Thanks
  • Tire that old are just looking for a place to shread. Get them off ASAP

I would say replacing them is wise. My personal choice would be LT or "commercial LT". As always, your personal choice may be different.

Expect a half dozen guys to come on here shortly promoting the wonderfulness of ST tires in general, and stupendously wonderfulness of a certain brand of ST that starts with "M" and ends in "X".
  • Better safe than sorry , sell the old ones on Craigs list , lots of landsacpers running mowing trailers than would buy them
  • You just never know about tires, every ones experience can be different. You may be able to run them a while longer, if you have given them good care, keeping them properly aired, covered from sun, not driving over curbs, etc. I would check them closely, between short trips, for cracks, even between tread, or bulges in sidewalls or tread. I would consider changing them before a lengthy trip.

In reality, no one can say they will be fine, even if they are just a year old. We all know STs can be unpredictable. My Provider STs on my 2012 are better than some brands, and are originals from new. I will run them for a few more years, if no obvious reason to replace them.

  • Tire manufacturers recommend replacing trailer tires every 3-5 years. Might be in your best interest to replace them with a new set of Marathons.
  • Well, you can look at two different ways. $600 to $900 for new tires or blow out a tire and cause $2000 to $3000 worth of damage and may not live to tell about it. Mine were 4 1/2 years old when we went to WI this year and guess what? My 5er stays in my enclosed rv slip. Your choice
