My Ram has 20" rims and stock 285 60 20 tires. The original Firestones are wearing quickly so I will probably need to replace them after my next big trip. I am thinking of Michelin Agilis tires. Load E is rated for 3640#. What choice do I have for a higher load rated tire in that size? Is there a bigger size that will fit my rims?
The only 20", 4080 lb. rated tire I'm aware of is the 295/65/20. Unfortunately, this tire has a 35.1" diameter (285/60/20 is 33.4"). FWIW, a 285/65/20 has a 3860 lb. rating with a 34.6" diameter.
BTW, the character based Load "E" rating is a rough, general tire category based on the number of plies, air pressure, etc. The "numerical" load rating (125, 129, etc.), along with a conversion chart, provides you with the exact number of lbs. the tire is capable of supporting.
