I checked on a larger, underbox fuel tank just recently, and was blown away by the ridiculous prices too. Whoa! It seems quite unbelievable that an ordinary plastic tank could cost that much. Maybe it's a liability issue. I would have guessed $300-500. Is there such a thing as a used OEM optional secondary tank for Ford F-250's? Perhaps I could adapt my old E-150 second tank.
By now towing with a 29 gallon pick-up vs the former 44 gallon Excursion, I lost capacity. But for the money, I think fuel cans, or a used oil drum (55, 30, 15 gal) and simple pump in the box will be fine. I don't really expect to need the capacity anyway since I like to stop and stretch often.

... - Seems to me that it would be a LOT cheaper to buy an external poly fuel tank, small pump and nozzle. And it would be removeable when you need the space...
- Then we're do u put your spare? I would rather have a couple of gas cans in the bed than a spare tire. Not sure were they think it's worth 1700.00
- $1700 wow! I think my 75 Gallon Transfer flow was only around $1000. Love the idea though. Would have one in a heartbeat if pricing was better.
- I have the replacement tank, and my spare. To put another tank replacing the spare tire would be nice for extended range, but at $1700 I can put in a far larger in bed tank, and other goodies VS relocate the spare into the bed and fab up some sort of mount.
- Yeah, it does make you wonder where you keep your spare now. Plus adding around 300 lbs. fairly far behind the axle too. And that price is surely substantial. Kind of interesting but I think I'll stick with my in bed 40 gallon auxiliary tank.
- Interesting. At $1700, it doesn't come cheap.
The benefit is not wasting valuable space somewhere else on the truck. I thought I was already storing something valuable in that location.
