Yes I don't disagree, it sounded like their issue was whether to produce the tank for a short model year run. A business decision on their part. Do they want to go after that small part of the market or start with the 2020 model year. I suspect that after GM increased the OEM fuel tank from 26 gallons in the GMT900 for the short box to 36 gallons there hasn't been as much demand for their fuel tanks for those trucks. We just got a '19 Chevy 3500 short box and while the 36 gallon tank is better, it still doesn't give us the range that the Titan gave us in the 08 truck that it is replacing. That truck finds itself in BFE Idaho so tank capacity is big deal. I was trying to lobby for them to make a tank for these trucks. Whatever their issue was they saw past it.
I'll agree on the tank size. We had a 04.5 short box with the 26 gallon tank. With a diesel towing it was marginal at best. With a gas engine towing IMHO it would have been a real PITA.
Our 2015.5 short box has the 36 gallon tank. Would 50ish be better? yes. But the 36 is for us at least adequate with a diesel and given the costs of the bigger tank, I don't plan on going for it. Had we planned on keeping the 04.5 I would likely have paid the bucks for a bigger tank.
Now if we had a gas engine, another story
