Titan XD Towing with the 5.6 V8

Just wondering if anyone out there is towing a 32'+ TT with this truck? Very close to committing to a purchase as DW and I want to upgrade from our 1st generation Titan with the same engine. I am told the newer V8 has been upgraded with additional HP & torque, and the XD chassis is a big upgrade as a towing platform. I know most people on this forum are Ford, Chevy & Dodge truck owners, but I would not trade my current Titan for any other. It has been the most trouble-free vehicle I've owned, and the only reason we are letting it go is my best camping bud really wants to buy it. Do not want a diesel - no way, no how! The truck is the Super Cab with a 139.8" wheelbase and 2560 payload. We want to pay off the truck in 4 years, then retire without any loan payments hanging over us. Any one care to share some real world towing experiences? Thanks much!

  • I think you have to crunch the numbers regarding the trailer (GVWR) and whether or not towing that amount of weight will exceed any of the vehicle ratings. Also important (and a reason to have more truck then you think you're going to need) is where you will be towing. If you're retiring (we're on a 24 month plan) and planning to travel out west in high elevation areas you're going to want a truck that can pull the trailer easily in the flat lands and handled the higher elevations, meaning a healthy margin between the weight of the trailer and the maximum weights the truck can handle.

We ended up with a trailer with a GVWR of 8.800 lbs and a truck with a 12,500 maximum tow rating and 4,000 payload since our plan is to do some travel out west and realize the power at sea level is going to be reduced significantly at 10,000 feet.

Crunch the numbers and leave yourself a healthy fudge factor with respect to the truck.
