To Equalize or not to Equalize...that is the question....

I tow 7,500 pounds with my 2500 Duramax, usually with a bed full of firewood and other misc junk. My suspension barely squats. I don't monkey with a WD hitch and it handles just fine at interstate speeds.

Each to his own, do what you're comfortable with but I wouldn't waste the extra time to fart around with it. I used to tow 5,000lbs with a half and did the WDH thing. Pain in the butt.
