I have a Dodge 3500, and my trailer will hit 7600lbs with 300-500 lbs in the bed of the truck. I used the WDH UNTIL i had airbags installed to counter the squat. It rides just fine without the WWDH and in fact is less bouncy on bumps at highway speed. I use the WDH for longer trips but dont crank them down... each his own but I think you will be fine.
The bounce is caused by having the spring bars a link or two too tight.
I tow with a Hensley and when I stopped in at their office last year for a chat, about new spring bars for my heavier rig, the gent came out to look at my set up.
I had the spring bars just about screwed down to the max, first thing he said to me was "I'll bet you feel every expansion joint on the Interstate." We did!
He backed the spring bars off a few turns says to try it, no more bounce and no more thump from the expansion joints.
The end result is I had a better ride and didn't need heavier spring bars, I needed a different draw bar without as much drop. One of the nice things about Hensley, change you rig and need a different draw bar or spring bars they exchange it for you no charge.
Could I tow without WDH yes, would I no.
To each their own, but I wouldn't want to cause a wreck and then have it hanging over my head that maybe it wouldn't have happened if I had take the extra minute to hitch up the spring bars.
The folks in these boards that say just jump in and do it remind me of the kid on the play ground that talks you into doing something, then standing back and laughing when you get caught.
