Sofa isn't a necessity, but I want some comfy seating inside that doesn't cram you into the dinette. I would forego the couch and associated foldout bed for 2 swivel chairs or recliners. The couches in RV's are always too small for 2 people to be comfortable and unless its a foldout fullsize bed, its too small for an adult to sleep on.
As far as I am concerned, a visiting child can sleep on a sleeping bag on the floor. No need to have an uncomfortable couch for the rare occasion I need an additional (and uncomfortable) bed.
If you get the right floorplan, you can get a 6' sofa that'll sit 4 people. That was my hang up with many superslide models. Those superslide models had tiny sofas and uncomfortable dinette seating. Only needed about 1.5' more slide area to offer larger sofas so everyone could be comfortable (at least in our family).
I wouldn't put a child on the dirty cold floor. I don't think their parents would appreciate my lack of care. :D I also wouldn't buy anything for the chance of a vistor either. They make tents and cots for that.
