toilet

Have a 1989 prowler trailer and want to change toilet to standard toilet. Question, is the factory installed toilet have the same 3" flange as a standard toilet. I'm skilled in plumbing and will fix all else involved just wanted to know on flange before I removed old toilet.
  • If I was to go permanent I would consider removing the black tank and plumbing it like a stick and brick house.

To all, My trailer will be permanent. As to space I can take care of making it fit. Do they make a RV toilet that is 'comfort height" like residential toilets.

There are RV toilets with a higher profile, and, there is a riser that can be installed under one of the short models.

Here's a link to an eBay listing for the riser.

Yes......there are 'high profile' RV toilets

Thetford and Dometic both have them and they also have elongated porcelain bowls.....even come with a spray attachment to rinse bowl down.

Just swap yours out with a new Thetford or Dometic RV toilet. Easy job. I would not recommend a residential toilet for a number of reasons.
  • I believe the flange is the same, but the water use will be totally different. I imagine that you will fill up the black tank in a hurry. Also don't think about leaving the drain valve open and just flushing through the black tank. You'll most likely end up with the dreaded pyramid of poop under the bowl doing it that way.
  • If you mean a residential toilet...........better take several measurements before purchasing that new toilet.

Center line of floor flange to back wall........not enough room for toilet with tank

Center line of floor flange to any cabinets/doors...may block them from opening

Center line of floor flange to any side wall......tank may not fit

Floor flanges are the same but the setbacks are NOT

Looks like the consensus is against using a HOUSE toilet in the RV.

Check out this link for one such thread...

    RV TOILET vs House TOILET

You might want to consider the porcelain type RV toilet

  • Yes but by standard toilet, do mean a residential home toilet with a tank at the back?
If so, why? Water won't stay in the bowl and tank when towing, the tank will usually keep the toilet too far from the wall and then the base flange lining up and on and on.....
