I think that balancing the jack on a block of wood is more of an accident waiting to happen, than having the jack post inserted into the stand.
As I said in my first post I kept the metal foot that was on an old screw jack and have been using it of years and never had a problem with it slipping. I can't say the same for using a block of wood, been there, done that and won't do it again.
No problem at all if you're properly chocked.
Also no problem with the jack foot if your properly chocked.
With that kind of frame of thinking...just towing a trailer down the road is an "accident waiting to happen". But as in later posting, "no problem...if properly chocked." There are no problem with anything if proper preceedures are followed. Cheers! :D
