- myredracerExplorer III like gadgets and thought about getting one in the past but I've been to a CAT scale and have everything (TT, truck & WDH) all set up as good as it possibly can be and it tows and handles great. We always have it loaded up basically the same and never tow with anything in the holding tanks. How often would you actually use one?
For those that have one or are thinking of getting one, many find that they are somewhat inaccurate. From reading numerous threads on the Sherline, the trick to avoid this is to jump on the tongue to make the scale settle. - lencyfanExploreri love this ***Link Removed***
- daystromExplorerTrue! But I weighed mine once, hardly worth buying a dedicated tongue scale.

Just buy the 2000 lb gauge from Sherline and switch it out. That is what I did. There is one scale and three different gauges.
I did not know that. Thanks!! - hohenwald48Explorer

And tents are a lot cheaper than travel trailers. Just not as convenient. :) - GrandpaKipExplorer III made the cheapo version out of a scrap 4x4, 2 large dowel pieces, and an old hitch ball. Takes just a couple minutes to set up. Son and grandkids were puzzled about what crazy old grandpa was doing now. Turned it into a math lesson and physics lesson.

I also have the Sherline scale. Love it. Used it a lot more than I thought I would. Only problem is I got the 1000# and have graduated up to TT's that needs the 2000#. Wanna trade? :B
I would, but with you in Idaho and me here in Ontario, Canada I doubt it would be worth the cost of shipping and any customs charges that might be involved. Thanks for the suggestion though! :B - GordonThreeExploreranother vote for the Sherline. I found my 2000# unit somewhere for under $100, it's super easy to use.
kinda of a bummer to buy it, since once you know your loaded / unloaded tongue, how often to do really measure it? - lbrjetExplorer

But not nearly as convenient to use as a purpose designed Sherline tongue weight scale. The only mistake I made was ordering mine with a 2000 lb scale when a 1000 lb version would have been much more useful to me since I've never owned nor will ever own any trailer with a gross tongue weight that would come anywhere near close to exceeding 1000 lbs. Great tool though for any trailer owner. :B
