Too good to be true?

I'm looking at a used 2012 StarCraft Autumn Ridge 278BH. Current owner is the second owner and he is asking around $11,000 with hitch, bars, x-chocks, hoses, and leveling blocks. Is this deal too good? Its about a 3hr drive to check it out. I have also seen it for sale for several weeks now which also makes me wonder. NADA says $13,600 is avg retail.
  • Thanks for the responses. The guy didn't lie. He said the PO got it from Ohio or where ever the factory is. I may go down and take a look this weekend. Thanks again for all of the responses, they have been very helpful.
  • Sounds like your VERY interested. No harm in looking. I'd make the trip. Make a family road-trip day out of it. Maybe you can plan something else to do while you're in that area. Go with NO expectations and be pleasantly surprised when you find them. Go with complete skepticism and be pleasantly surprised when there's nothing to be skeptical about! Have fun. This is part of the RV adventure you know!
  • The price seems in line for a used 2012. In a short search, I just found a new 2012 for 13,900 and a new 2013 for 14,900. Even if no maintenance was performed, it's only a model year old. The tt may have just come out of warranty coverage for that matter.

Starcraft builds a nice solid trailer and have been for years. Price seems good, you should take a look.
  • Look it over with a fine tooth comb. Look in each cabinet for staining from a roof leak. look at the floor for staining and soft spots. Look at the walls for rusty staples or nails.

Lift up anything on the floor that is not factory and see if the owner is hiding something.

If the exterior is smooth fiberglass stand back about 30 - 40 feet and sight down the sides and front/back for big delamination bubbles.

Check the roof caulking. By now you should see where new caulk has been applied to fix minor weather cracking. Feel the entire roof to see if it has any soft/crunchy spots.

and if all checks out okay, see if you can sit on the toilet with he door closed.

Oh also test every appliance for correct operation.

The guy has the title and I have seen it. He faxed a copy of the front and back to me. He said the previous owner got it from Ohio where StarCraft are made and that's why the cheap price. He also said he's selling because he would rather have the money right now. He has dropped the price over the past few months. I have also seen a few pictures of the TT. It seems to be pretty clean, but pictures never do justice.

Well, lie # 1. Starcrafts are built in Topeka Indiana. Been there, know that.

    This.

It actually sounds like a realistic price.

Two owners so quickly makes me suspicious

    X2

Don't even think about making the trip, unitl you know where the title is, and know that it will be imediately signed over to you.

Don't listen to any excuses about taking time to get the title.
