Top Heavy

If placing items on top shelves or upper bunk beds what is the max weight would you place to be safe from trailer swaying/tilting from being top heavy when towing a TT behind you?

Thanks

  • Take it from a race car driver/builder.

High weight is never good. It's not like a little high weight is good and another is bad. It's cumulative. Any high weight is bad and more is worse and a lot is really bad.

What makes it worst is, bunks are usually in the rear which takes tongue weight off which is never a good thing.

Another bad thing is heavy things falling off of bunks are always a bad thing.

    Plan carefully. :)
  • 500 lbs. on one side would be my guess. Most of the weight in a travel trailer is at the frame elevation or near the floor. It would take a lot of weight to set up an imbalance situation where the trailer actually rocked from elevated weight.
  • campingloo has it right! You'd have to add some hefty weight to make a difference and that would break the upper beds and cabinets. Unless you are planning on stacking bars of gold in your cabinets, or a collection of boulders and rocks, I don't think you have any reason to worry about anything in your camper being "top heavy." If it's "that" heavy, transport it on the floor!

    Hahaha

According to the sticker it says 100# and the other side it's 300# and these are upper bunk beds. I'm not planning to put that much weight on them when I travel but would like to know how much is too much?
