I bought a used set of TLs 6 years ago and did repaint them but have had no issues since. They are solid as a rock.
$500 is ridiculous to begin with but they work well.
Ticki2 is correct, road chemicals will corrode aluminum, so the Talons might look good for a while. Depending on how much you use them they may look good for as long as you own them.
I'm cheap. I do buy good tools, but within reason, the extra $160 isn't worth it to me.
When I get new truck I'll look for a used set if available. If not it will be a new set of steel TLs.
