The Silverado was, indeed, a 2011 half-ton, of course with factory trailer towing package. Equalizer hitch. 2012 Rockwood 26' trailer. I weighed the whole rig on a truck scale, and we were within allowable weight for every spec. including GVWR and GAWR. I'd used the trailer brakes by themselves to pull out of swaying situations before, but this came on so sudden I couldn't get my hand on the switch fast enough. I've played the if only game for two weeks now and I'm tired of it. Doesn't do any good. Of course if I'd have been thinking ahead I would have known to expect a sudden wind gust while pulling past a semi, and should have had my hand on the trailer brake switch already. But I didn't, and that's that.
I still have my big, bright, loud Harley Ultra Classic, so there will still be enough thrills to keep me entertained. Wife quit riding on the back after a couple of tries. With eight grandchildren she's taking no chances. We'll still get to the national parks, might even stay in a few Kamping Kabins with the doggies. Who knows? But, being in our mid sixties, I doubt we'll have the money or inclination to spend 50 grand or better to get an RV setup again. There's always rentals, after all!
