Larry,
Whats the highest straight line wind you have towed in?
In Wyoming a few years ago there were 50 mph winds recorded on I-80 while I was towing this rig.
WOW I replied to the question to me before I read your post and I guess you and I were on I-80 the same day back in 2004. I didn't remember all the exact numbers and was doing my best at remembering. A lot of the winds along I-80 are not always cross winds, but that one day when they were was as I said a horrendous day for towing.

Actually, for me it was October, 2011. We had just bought the RV, had gone on a few weekend shakedown outings, and were on our 5,600 mile journey to Portland, Santa Cruz, Grand Canyon, et al. The high winds on I-80 actually made national news. You are right-I kept it at 45 mph and did fine, except for the white-knuckling, of course. The winds were so strong and shook the TT so much the rear steps came out on their own twice before I tied them up with a rope.
That RV and truck got the baptism by fire in other ways on that first big trip. We went over Togwotee Pass on the way to the Tetons. They were completely rebuilding the road. This wasn't like normal road rebuildings. They had actually removed the road, so we were driving in the mud, in the rain. Never thought I'd be off-reading it in my brand-new RV! At one point some highway worker waved me through after the guy 300 yards down the line waved his traffic through. I had to back up the whole rig about 50 yards, on a mud ridge, in the rain. It sounds like I'm making this up, but I assure you I'm not. That night we got out to set up, and our entire white RV was now reddish brown. It took over three hours in a truck wash next day to get just most of the mud off. I'm sure there was still some left when it crashed.
Ah, good times. Maybe the wife and I will turn my new Mazda 5 into a camper!
