As an owner of a "half ton" truck towing a TT, I don't understand why so many people think they aren't suitable for towing. I tow my 28 ft TT with my half ton truck, and just like the OP I am well within weight limits. I do take my time, and I really consider my options if wind is predicted. That being said, I have managed to avoid the really bad winds of the midwest/west and hope I continue that forever. I don't feel unsafe with my F150 pulling a light weight TT -- dry weight is 5200 and gross capacity is 8000-- so even if I load the trailer heavy I still have over 1000 lbs in unused tow capacity. I don't push long hours and distances as I know my heightened awareness towing wears me out much quicker than just driving the truck without towing. Oh yeah, since I usually am traveling alone, I stop sooner and more frequently too.
I just do not understand why some posters think NO ONE should ever drive anything smaller than a "one ton" diesel, because it isn't safe. A huge truck isn't always the needed solution.
