tow power cable partially severed

After arriving at the campground I noticed there was a tear on the power cable that plugs into the truck. It looked like a clean cut and maybe two wires are severed. A quick check showed that my left signal was not working. My best guess is the cable got between two moving parts on the hitch while I was making a sharp turn and pinched it? I don't know. What are my options? I'll check the owners manual to see what wires I need. I just wonder if I need it. Can I cut and reattach?
  • If you have room, splice it back together, to get you home. Or, check to see if there is a dealer nearby, who has a replacement pigtail.

Sure can - just connect the same color two wires together using one of the twist wire nut connectors... I would secure the two ends together using CABLE TIE WRAPS so you wont pull it apart until you get back home...LOWES-WALMART-RADIO SHACK...

When you get back home I would order a new cable from ETRAILER.COM... Just be sure you get one with the same color wires in it. Replacement is easy color for color in the 7-way Electrical junction box under the trailer...

You probably need a new 7-way plug anyway... Etrailer has two length sizes available...

  • I would strip the insulation back and get some crimp on wire connectors for the cut wires and black tape it till home.
