People who own 4x4's like to be sold things they don't need. They can't help it, it's just that way. The only people who need 4x4's are utl. company, loggers, ranchers, city's, and towns in the snow area's, the dealer make a lot of extra money sell the guy that thinks he needs everything. All that extra fuel burned is bad for global warming.
I just bought a F350 4x4 six months ago. On our first outing with it, we were boondocking in the national forest. It poured rain overnight. When trying to pull my FW out the following morning, I could not get enough traction in 4x2 mode. Switched to 4x4 and activated the rear axle lockers. I was barely able to make it out.
So even though I don't fit into any of your narrowly defined criteria, I still needed it. You also failed to mention folks who like to explore the deserts or forests where slippery sand or dirt roads make 4x2 travel nearly impossible or very limiting.
